Terapiya  Cattery – Breeding/Adoption Policy

Section 1 - Overview and Scope:

  1. Terapiya  Cattery is a small establishment established in 2022. We breed kittens in Young, NSW for the purpose of improving the standard of the breed and not for the pet market.

  2. Our focus is on breeding healthy, happy, well-adjusted kittens free from any known genetic or health ailments.

  3. Terapiya  Cattery is registered through CATS NSW and is compliant to their Code of Ethics and the DPI Animal Welfare Code of Practice Breeding Dogs and Cats.

  4. This policy applies to all kitten adoptees, potential adoptees and breeders associated with Terapiya Cattery.

Section 2 - Kitten enquiries

  1. Enquiries are directed to Terapiya Cattery though the electronic forms online.

  2. We endeavour to respond to enquiries within 4-5 days of receipt.

  3. To ensure our kittens are adopted to loving, responsible owners, we require information about the potential owners and the environment into which the kitten will be adopted.

  4. Enquiries regarding adopting a kitten as a gift for a third party will not be considered.

  5. Rude and aggressive correspondence will not be responded to.

  6. Potential adoptees will be placed on a waiting list once the 10% reservation fee is received. Priority is given to inquiries based on the date the reservation fee is received. It is common courtesy for the potential adoptees to cancel their order should they adopt a kitten from another breeder during the wait time, however, please be aware that the reservation fee is non-refundable.

  7. If the specific colour and/or gender of the adoptee’s choice is not available in the allocated litter, the adoptee will be given the opportunity to change their preference before the kitten is offered to the next listed adoptee. While we endeavour to provide the colour and sex of the kitten that is ordered, availability will ultimately depend on the colours and sex of the kittens available in a particular litter.

  8. Kittens that are sold for breeding and/or showing will be carefully selected against the Russian breed standard. There may be additional wait time for the right kitten. The information potential owners provide via the electronic form will not be shared with a third party and will be kept strictly confidential.

  9. We will not take orders from persons who already have their name on another breeder's waiting list. We expect that buyers will be committed to a purchase from Terapiya and will be prepared to wait until their kitten is born.

  10. Adoptees are expected to maintain a reasonable level of contact with Terapiya Cattery during the pre-adoption period. Adoptees will be notified of their kitten’s availability when the kitten is 8-9 weeks old. Adoptees who are on our waiting list, but do not respond to notification after 3 weeks will forfeit their placement on the list. If there has been no contact 5 weeks after notification, the adoptee will forfeit their reservation fee.

  10. Travel costs to return the kitten to Terapiya Cattery and organising this is at the buyer’s expense

Step One:

We get your information and do a meet and greet to determine if everything will be a fit. We do a video call to ensure that you are comfortable with us as your preferred breeder, to meet the litters and assess suitability as an owner and answer any questions.

Step Two:

We then take a reservation fee; this is to secure your kitten to add to the waitlist. Once we have a successful mating and con confirm the gender and temperament requested, we will then look to make contact with prospective owners.

Step Three:

We will answer further questions whilst your kitten is getting ready to leave their mother. By 12-14 weeks you are ready to get your new family member!

We take breeding extremely seriously. If we feel at any point during the adoption process things no longer will work or fit, we will refuse purchase and homing of the kitten. We have a rigorous screening process to ensure kittens are going to good forever homes.
